CITY - National artist Benedicto Cabrera brought home his
collection of nude drawings at Café by the Ruins, where friends
and locals enjoyed his works.
"I am fascinated with the human form," he
said with a smile. In 2000 BenCab held an exhibition of nude
portraits at the defunct Café San Luis where he commissioned
models to pose nude while the Tam Awan Group of Artists and
himself sketched away during the opening.
Last week's opening at the Café by the Ruins
was like a reunion of sorts bringing back old friends, old
timers and fellow artists who converged at the 25 year old
coffee shop in which BenCab is a partner.
BenCab moved from table to table with ease,
waving and laughing with friends and with colleagues in the art
scene "It is always refreshing to have an exhibit in the city,
it's like coming home," he said.
The exhibit has toured Southeast Asian
countries reaping rave reviews and has finally gone back here
along with the collection of at least 25 framed sketches.
The national artist's book, Bencab: Nude Drawings, features
25 sensual portraits depicting the feminine form in various
poses, "Bencab has created avatars of sundry women. Some are
catlike in their stances.
