Spoiled chicken
meat
seized in Pasay
AUTHORITIES in Pasay City seized anew some
200 kilos of "rotten" chicken meat at an apartment in Raymundo
Street corner Taft Avenue at around 4 am Thursday following a
month-long surveillance operation.
City veterinarian Dr. Ronaldo Benasor said
the confiscated meat was already sliced and packed in plastic
bags apparently for delivery. He said the meat was treated with
preservatives to mask its stink. Raiders from the local
veterinary and health office accompanied by Pasay policemen
found a vat of chlorine in the apartment.
A Deo Derinal, vendor and alleged owner of
the spoiled meat, was arrested while cleaning the chicken parts
inside the apartment.
Benasor said they are now tracing the source
of the contaminated meat while charges are being readied against
the owner. He said they have evidence that the spoiled meat was
being sold at P70 per kilo, much lower than the prevailing
market price for chicken.
The veterinary office said the spoiled meat
will be taken to a crocodile farm along Roxas Boulevard after
testing.
Pasay City Mayor Wenceslao Trinidad ordered Benasor to find
out if the rotten meat had been brought to neighboring cities.
Last year, Pasay authorities confiscated about 700 kilos of
"double dead" pork meat set to be delivered to a local public
market. The meat had apparently come from Bulacan which was in
one of the six regions where the National Meat Inspection
Commission had raised an alert for hog cholera outbreak. -
