Is she or isn’t she? When a pol starts kissing babies,
so says conventional wisdom, an election campaign is in the works.
President Arroyo has floated the idea she will run for a House seat in Pampanga’s
second district, her family’s old homestead, and if the numbers add up, become House Speaker.
No wonder Speaker Prospero Nograles is antsy these days.

SPEAKER Prospero Nograles yesterday said if
he would have his way, he would suggest to President Arroyo not
to seek a seat in the Lower House in next year’s elections.
"I am not privy to her plans for 2010. If I’m
asked, I will tell her ‘Huwag na lang, ma’am.’ But I have not
been asked," Nograles told reporters.
"I don’t think, after being president …tatakbo
pa siya (for a lower post)… because there’s nothing more to
prove. She has been president that was the epitome of power.
That’s the highest post in government," he said.
THE Department of Public Works and Highways
yesterday slapped a one-year suspension on 60 contractors for
violating the provisions of R.A. 9184 or the Government
Procurement and Reform Act.
The suspension order, which was signed May
21, took effect yesterday.
Public Works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr.
said the suspension only covers bidding for DPWH and other
government agencies’ projects.
THE number of influenza A(H1N1) cases in the

since May 1.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said 46
more cases were added to the DOH’s list over the weekend, all of
them Filipinos. Of this number, 27 were females and 19 were
males, with ages ranging from 9 to 47.
Duque said of the 193 cases, 71 have fully
recovered, including 33 who were sent home over the weekend.
