‘Kung ako siguro, I would have done something drastic to myself. – Wendy Valdez’

Wendy admires Katrina’s guts

HOW sad that sometimes the only time you get to meet old friends, whom you may not have seen for years, is at the wake of a common friend. Always, a pall of gloom hovers both of you.

Like what happened at the wake of Douglas Quijano. We bumped into former actress Teresa Loyzaga, whom we have not seen for years. She was with her younger sister, Bing (Loyzaga), the wife of Janno Gibbs, at The Heritage Memorial in Taguig.

For sometime now, Teresa has been living with her son, Diego (father: Cesar Montano) in Australia. She works for an airline company as a cabin attendant.

How’s her son? we asked Teresa.

"He’s now a teenager," she replied. "And very good-looking. From time to time, he comes home to the Philippines to pay his dad a visit."

Teresa’s son is in good terms with Cesar’s wife, Sunshine Cruz. The boy stays with them when he is on vacation here.

We asked Teresa if she would allow her son to join showbiz.

"Why not? But I’d like him to finish first his studies," she said.

Teresa has two elder children from a previous relationship. She was still in demand in her career (she excelled in kontrabida roles) when she decided to leave showbiz.

Will John Lloyd Cruz get the chance to talk with ex-girlfriend Liz Uy before he leaves for the US for a series of concerts with his fellow Star Magic talents?

All in all, there will be more than 40 Star Magic talents who will participate in the concert tour.

"Kaya, tiyak masaya ang biyaheng ito," he beamed.

Going back to Liz, should she and John Lloyd meet, it will be the first time that he would talk to Liz since her arrival from her European tour with friends Raymond Gutierrez, Anne Curtis, Georgina Wilson and Isabella Diaz-Daza.

John’s departure for the US is scheduled this week. For the first time, he will be celebrating his birthday away from home – and from his loved ones, he specified.

John turns 26 on June 24.

This is John’s second trip to the US this year.

"Pero ‘yung unang trip ko was in New York for the filming of ‘In My Life’ with Vilma Santos and Luis Manzano," he said. "We were there for almost one month. We really worked hard to finish the movie kaya naman, it’s almost finished na. Kung may kukunan nang mga eksena dito, minimal na lang."

One of the selling points of the movie, he agreed, is his kissing scene with Luis. They play gays in "In My Life."

"Actually, it’s not a torrid kind of kissing. Pero maganda ang pagkaka-execute ni Direk Olive (Lamasan). Walang malisya," he stated.

"In My Life" is neither his movie nor Luis’. It’s Governor Vi’s all the way. And once more, according to John Lloyd, Governor Vi delivered.

"Kaya it’s an honor na makatrabaho siya. She is one of the very few who can truly be considered an icon," John Lloyd added.

Wendy Valdez cannot imagine herself in Katrina Halili’s shoes. But she admires Katrina’s guts.

"Kung ako siguro, I would have done something drastic to myself," she said.

You mean suicide? We asked her.

"Hindi imposible," Wendy replied. "Kaya I take my hat off to Katrina. With what she is doing, she is saving us, her kabaro, from experiencing what she has gone through. I hope talaga may napupuntahan ang kanyang ipinaglalaban."

A product of ABS-CBN’s reality show, "Pinoy Big Brother 2" (PBB), Wendy was considered the most controversial housemate of her batch. Her reputation, to her surprise, helped her carve a name in the business.

Her boyfriend, Bruce Quebral, was also in PBB, but he has decided to quit showbiz. He now works as a flight steward.

"He’s now based in Dubai," said Wendy. "But everytime he is here, we make sure na magkita. And we make the most of our time together."

Wendy has been in showbiz for three years. And in that period, she worked with famous and veteran actors from who helped her learn a lot about acting.

Aside from playing the lead in "Margarita," she considers being part of the teleserye, "I Love Betty la Fea," where she played the right hand of Daniella (played by Ruffa Gutierrez), as her biggest break. She was paired with Vhong Navarro in the series.

Bea Alonzo was Betty, and John Lloyd Cruz portrayed Bea’s leading man.

Wendy is featured in one of the episodes in the romance drama, "Precious Romance Presents… Bud Brothers."
