Powerbooks picks historian
as Filipino author for June

Multi-awarded historian, columnist, professor and author, Ambeth Ocampo, best known for his writings on Jose Rizal is Powerbooks' Filipino author of the month for June.

Born in Manila in 1961, Ocampo took his primary, secondary and tertiary education at the Ateneo de Manila University and obtained a BA and an MA in Philippine Studies from De La Salle University. In 1990, he compiled his earliest columns into two books: Looking Back and Rizal Without the Overcoat.

The books made the new generation better understand the Philippines' national hero, and made the study and reading of Rizal a joy, instead of a burden. Ocampo has written 11 more books including the following: Meaning and History: The Rizal Lectures and Bones of Contention: The Bonifacio Lectures, both published in 2001.

Catch Ocampo as he paints Jose Rizal in a whole new light with a discussion about his book Rizal Without the Overcoat at Powerbooks Greenbelt at 6 p.m. today.

Powerbooks Specialty Store is a complete specialty bookstore with branches at Greenbelt 4, Megamall, Alabang Town Center, Glorietta 3, Shangri-La, Robinson's Place Ermita, Mall of Asia, Festival Supermall, Trinoma and SM Cebu.
