UP Open University entrance exams on Aug. 18

THE UP Open University will hold entrance examinations for the second semester for new students in the Associate in Arts and the Master of Public Management programs on Aug. 18 at the UPOU Learning Centers in Diliman, Quezon City, UP College in Cebu City and UP Mindanao in Davao City.

All interested applicants should mail their applications and other requirements to the Office of the University Registrar, UP Open University, Los Baños, Laguna on or before July 31, 2007. Application forms are available in all UPOU Learning Center and can also be downloaded from the UPOU website www.upou.net.

The Associate in Arts (AA) program is a 60-unit liberal arts program at the undergraduate level. Graduates of AA are qualified to pursue a Bachelor’s degree, whether in the sciences or the arts. The Master of Public Management program is designed for policy makers, administrators, and managers of public, private, and non-government organizations; practitioners in local government and administration; and other individuals interested in good governance, public policy and administration.

All courses are offered through distance mode and students can pursue their studies anytime and anywhere.

Hundreds nabbed in raid at Pasig’s old drug den 

SOME 100 suspected drug pushers and users were rounded up in a raid on the former shabu drug den in Pasig City Thursday morning.

One person, Wilfredo Caeda, 30, was wounded in the knee and taken to the hospital after he shot it out with raiding policemen at the Mapayapa compound in Barangay Santo Tomas.

Among those arrested was Michael Elliot Tablizo, 29, a traffic enforcer of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority. Forty others were invited for questioning.

Chief Supt. Luizo Ticman, Eastern Police District director, said an undetermined amount of shabu was seized during the raid.
