Rivalry, music, and fame intertwine
in ‘Kaputol ng Isang Awit’

FEEL the rhythm of love and music this month as GMA-7 turns another most loved classic Filipino movie to be the newest compelling series to hit television in "Sine Novela" presents "Kaputol ng Isang Awit."

The seventh offering of GMA-7’s top-rating back-to-back afternoon drama, "Kaputol ng Isang Awit" is based on the 1991 blockbuster directed by Emmanuel Borlaza. It is a breathtaking story about two women who live in two different worlds but seek to conquer the same dream.

Today, March 3, "Kaputol ng Isang Awit" brings together the country’s future drama princesses Glaiza de Castro and Lovi Poe, and princes Marky Cielo and Jolo Revilla. The series is under the direction of Mike Tuviera. They will be joined by Tirso Cruz III, Snooky Serna, Leo Martinez, Gary Estra-da, Isabel Granada, and Tuesday Vargas. Jennylyn Mer-cado joins the cast in a special guest role.

The lead character Sarah Monteza played by Glaiza de Castro is a poor, mousy -looking young lady who has a great voice and a big dream to be a well known singer someday. But despite her talent, her cruel grandfather Lolo Ige (Leo Martinez) forbids her to sing. Thus, her work as a back up singer for the very popular Joanna Ambrosio remains a secret to her family. This simple young woman just wants to earn enough money so she can bring her mother Vina (Snooky Serna) to a hospital for treatment of her psychological disorder. Sarah never met her real father.

Meanwhile, Lovi Poe portrays her most challenging role to date as she plays Joanna Ambrosio, daughter of rich businessman Julio Ambrosio (Gary Estrada), whose dream of becoming a recording star has come true. She is spoiled, selfish, self-centered, impulsive, and insensitive lass who will do everything just to keep her star status. She envies so much her sister, Charmaine (Jennylyn Mercado), who is the country’s most popular performer.

Playing Eric Valderama, an executive at a recording company, is Marky Cielo. Eric, Joanna’s boyfriend, is musically inclined and has a knack for spotting real talents. He is a very hard working man who comes from a poor family. He earned his position in the company because of diligence and patience.

Jolo Revilla, on the other hand, plays Marco Salcedo, a dashing and debonaire young man who is a true marketing and PR man. Unlike Eric, this smooth talker and great conversationalist landed on the job at the recording company because of his mother who is friends with businesswoman Elena Valderama (Isabel Granada).

Making the story more colorful and compelling are the characters of Mimay Sison (Tuesday Vargas) and Arsenio Rivera (Tirso Cruz III). Mimay is the best friend of Sarah who works as a social worker inside the city jail. She will invite Sarah to perform in one of her events where they will meet one of the inmates named Arsenio, who was imprisoned for murder.

Find out how music, fame, and dreams interconnect the love and lives of Sarah, Jo-anna, Eric, and Marco. When Eric discovers the potential of Sarah as solo performer, it seems that he has also discovered a new love in her. Seeing Sarah as a threat to her love and career, what schemes will Joanna use to destroy her former back up singer who is now her competition? Meanwhile, Marco falls in love with Sarah but what if he finds out she is in love with someone else? Will the PR man give in and accept defeat or will he connive with Joanna and use all his connections to get Sarah? If fate leads Sarah to uncover her secret, will this be the end of her career? Will destiny guide her to find the man she has been waiting to meet – her father? When will the mystery of her identity be unraveled? Is the unfinished composition she discovered in her mother’s belongings her only lead to her unknown father?

Catch the newest compelling drama in the afternoon block, "Sine Novela" presents "Kaputol ng Isang Awit" on GMA-7’s "Dramarama sa Hapon."
