Rape victim assured of gov’t help

MALACAÑANG has assured that the Philippine government would do all it can to ensure that a 21-year-old Filipina overseas worker allegedly raped by an American soldier in Japan would get justice.
Presidential management staff chief Cerge Remonde said the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is looking after the welfare of the Filipina.
Reports said the Filipina had arrived in Japan in mid-February and was allegedly raped two days later by a US soldier in Okinawa, the southern region of Japan which hosts some 20,000 servicemen.
The DFA had already contacted the relatives of the victim, who has decided to file a complaint against her attacker, in the Philippines. She is now being assisted by the DFA through the Philippine embassy in Japan.
