Book on Alcuaz
launched tomorrow

The art book "Federico Aguilar Alcuaz" will be launched at 6 p.m. tomorrow at The Forum, 4th floor, Fully Booked, Building 6, 902 Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Written by businessman and art critic Jack Teotico, the book was published by GJ Publishing in cooperation with the Alcuaz family.

With a career spanning 55 years, Federico Aguilar Alcuaz is one of the most internationally awarded and acclaimed Filipino artists. He has exhibited his works in leading galleries in the Philippines, Spain, Portugal, Singapore, the US, Germany and Poland.

Among his numerous awards are the first prize at the Premio Moncada (1957) and the Prix Francisco Goya (1958) in Barcelona. In Paris, he was given the Diploma of Honor at the International Exhibition of Art Libre in 1961, the Decoration of Arts, Letters and Sciences award from the French government in 1964, and the Order of French Genius in 1964. He was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Merit in 2006.

Alcuaz’s works are included in the collection of some 20 museums and major cultural institutions in the world today including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid, the Gulvenkian Foundation Museum of London, the Museum of Modern Art of Warsaw, the Museum of Modern Art of Krakow, and the Philips Cultural Museum of the Netherlands.

The 54-page book showcases the artist’s life and rare works from his illustrious career. It is part of a series of projects by GJ Publishing and will also be distributed in Singapore and Hong Kong. Andrea Cruz, operations director of GJ Publishing, said that through projects such as this, "the company hopes to offer informative and educational art publications to a wider audience."

Teotico was an art critic for The Manila Chronicle, The Times Journal and Lifestyle Asia. A Founding Trustee of the Malacañang Heritage Foundation and The Katutubong Filipino Foundation under First Lady Amelita Ramos, he was also a member of The Saturday Group of Artists under National Artist Cesar Legaspi.

In 1998, he helped strengthen the Ad Infinitum Galleries before becoming the managing director of Galerie Joaquin. That same year, he co-founded The Guevarra Group of Artists. Recently he was also named vice-chairman of the Committee on Art Galleries of the National Council for Culture and the Arts.
