Kidnap victims
rescued in 36 hours
THE Police Anti-Crime and Emergency
Response yesterday announced the rescue of two kidnap victims
and the recovery of the ransom money paid for them some 36
hours after they were snatched in Muñoz, Quezon City last Feb.
26.
In his report to PNP chief Avelino Razon,
PACER head Senior Supt. Leonardo A. Espina identified those
rescued as Alberto Cabrera and Jerry Katigbak, both from Molino,
Bacoor, Cavite, who were abducted at gunpoint aboard Cabrera's
Toyota Fortuner.
The kidnappers contacted Cabrera's wife and
demanded that she empty her husband's China Bank account at SM
South Mall in Las Piñas and bring the money to them as well as
the papers for the Toyota Fortuner at the Trinoma Mall. They
changed their plans later and opted to go to South Mall with
Cabrera to withdraw the money.
Posted about the change of plans, Espina
planted agents at SM South Mall and recovered Cabrera as he came
out of the bank with the P2 million taken from his account.
"When nobody approached Cabrera to take the ransom, PACER
operatives rushed to rescue the victim. The ransom was recovered
intact," Espina said.
Cabrera was leading PACER operatives to the kidnappers'
safehouse in BF Homes, Parañaque when they spotted his SUV being
driven by the kidnappers. After a brief chase, the kidnappers
abandoned the SUV with Jerry Katigbak on board and unharmed.
