Court asked to issue HDO
vs Green Cross officers
GOVERNMENT prosecutors petitioned the Parañaque City regional
trial court yesterday to issue hold departure orders against 13 directors and
shareholders of Green Cross Inc. (GCI) who were charged with estafa for
allegedly defrauding the company's founder, Gonzalo Co It.
State prosecutor Mary Jane Sytat, who also serves as the
86-year-old Co It's associate prosecution attorney, said she received "reliable
information from reliable sources" that all the accused, who are presently out
on bail, are planning to leave the country.
The accused are Co It's siblings Anthony, Peter, and Mary Co-Cho,
his in-laws, nieces and nephews, namely So Hua Co, Michael Anthony Co, Ann Marie
Co-Imperial, Joanna Liza Co-Yap, Jim Lewis Co, Nessie Pearl Co Chan, Sandy Chan,
Mark David Cho, and Dick Milton Cho.
Co It is the founder of the former Gonzalo Laboratories,
which was renamed Green Cross in 1989. The firm manufactures Green Cross rubbing
alcohol and Zonrox bleach, among other products.
Co It has accused his relatives of taking over his company by
misappropriating shares for themselves.
The defendants on the other hand claimed that Co It had
already sold all his shares in the company to them and his belated claim after
35 years is "for the sole purpose of extorting money from Green Cross." -Ashzel

NAIA fields
metered cabs today
as
alternative to limousines
THE Ninoy Aquino
International Airport will start fielding today 100 units of brand-new, metered
taxi as an alternative to airport limousines with a flagdown rate of P70 and an
additional P4 for every 300 meters.
Airport general manager
Alfonso Cusi, who was at the blessing of the yellow cabs yesterday, said the
taxis would be a less expensive alternative to the limousines.
Cusi said the taxis
would have receipt dispensing machines, and regulated through dispatch slips
containing plate number, breakdown of the tariff and contact numbers that the
passengers could call to report discourteous acts.
The taxi drivers, who
trained under the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, are all
accredited by the Tourism Department and the Manila International Airport
Authority. Their routes include the whole of Metro Manila and Cavite, Rizal,
Laguna and Bulacan. - Jay Chua
