Harbour wins anew

WITH Jeff Chan leading the way, Harbour Centre demolished Bacchus Energy Drink 90-70 yesterday for its third straight victory in the PBL Lipovitan Amino Sports Cup at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Chan played hot right in the first quarter as he scattered 13 points that he highlighted with three triples, setting the tone for the team’s easy win.

"The boys are now playing together and we’re distributing the ball pretty well," said Harbour Centre coach Jorge Gallent. "Malapit na sila sa full strength nila."

The 6-foot-3 Chan added another triple in the third quarter to finish with 17 points. He also had five rebounds and a steal in 18 minutes of action to lead a well-balanced attack.

With Beau Belga scoring six of his 12 points also in the opening frame and Jason Castro adding five, the Batang Pier took a commanding 29-15 lead.

They posted their biggest lead at 78-48 after Boyet Bautista hit back-to-back baskets with a little more than six minutes left. Castro and Jerwin Gaco finished with 11 points apiece while Bautista and Dylan Ababou combined for 17 points that underscored the team’s depth and awesome firepower.

The Bacchus Raiders, who dropped their first two games by an average margin of just 2.5 points, were outclassed in almost all departments.

In all, Harbour made 33 of 70 tries from the field for a high 47 percent shooting clip against 32 percent for the Raiders (26-of-81). They also had more rebounds 51-48 and assists 18-12.

Mark Yee paced the Raiders with 18 points as the Batang Pier held Bacchus’ leading scorer, Nat Cruz, to just seven points.

Burger King and Toyota Otis were still playing at press time, while Hape Toothpaste, also seeking its third straight win and a share of the lead, was set to face the Nokie RP Youth Team in the day’s other game.
