Siblings in showbiz are often asked about
rivalry. In Ara Mina and Cristine Reyes’ case, no such things
exist. It’s all about sisterly love.
Yes, they happen to be both gorgeous and yes,
they are both sexy stars but showbiz is big enough to
accommodate both talents.
To prove this, Ate Ara tries her hand at
producing for her younger sister. This is "Ate," a dramatic
vehicle from a story by Peque Gallaga, written by Gina Marissa-Tagasa
with direction by Lore Reyes.
In "Ate," Ara, who is an award-winning
actress, gives the limelight to Cristine, who – surprisingly –
shines in her dramatic scenes.
"I love my sister. Lahat kaya kong gawin
para sa kanya dahil kapatid ko siya. Alam kong alam nya ‘yun,"
said the actress.
The two as sisters are natural. In their
confrontation scenes, the actresses in them emerge. Ara, in her
quiet depiction of a woman torn between her love for a man and
her love for her own sister, gives a convincing portrayal. And
Cristine, although younger, shows promise. With her innocent
eyes always ready to shed tears, she is credible playing the
role of a girl very much like her but carrying a far bigger
load.
With this movie, Ara and Cristine also prove
that all the brouhaha in the past has been left behind. The two
are happy not only with the way their careers are going but also
with their relationship as siblings.
"Kung dati e pinakikialaman ko bawat kilos
niya kasi nga may pagka-overprotective akong ate, hindi
na ngayon. I’m just here to give her advice ‘pag
kailangan niya. Pero hindi ko na siya sinisita,"
revealed Ara. "Mas effective pala ‘yung ganun. ‘Yung
parang magkabarkada lang kayo pag nag-uusap. Mas cool."
But Cristine remains very secretive about her
lovelife, said Ara. "Hindi ko na siya kinukulit kapag may
nababalitaan ako. Alam ko naman na eventually, magku-confide
din ‘yan sa akin."
"Kahit hindi ko sinasabi sa kanya ang
lahat ng nangyayari sa buhay ko, she’s always there for me,"
acknowledged Cristine, "Hindi niya ako pinababayaan. Sobrang
thankful din ako dahil nag-produce siya ng movie
para sa aming dalawa."
With Ara and Cristine in "Ate" are Paolo Paraiso, Ian
Veneracion, Eva Darren, Rochelle Barrameda and Eddie Garcia.
