In time for Lenten season, HBO premieres
the true to life story of Bruce Murakami in "Crossroads: A
Story of Forgiveness" tonight (March 18) at 9.
On that fateful Nov. 16, 1998 afternoon in
Tampa, Florida, Bruce Murakami (Dean Cain, "Lois & Clark")
learns that his wife, Cindy, and daughter, Chelsea were
involved in a horrendous car accident which claimed both their
lives. Convinced that his wife was in no way at fault for what
happened, an enraged Bruce focused on clearing his wife’s
reputation and bringing the guilty driver to face the legal
consequences of his actions.
Bruce soon discovers that the fatal
encounter was a result of a reckless street race staged by
teenagers. The identity of the driver at fault finally
emerged. A 17-year-old Justin Gutierrez (Shiloh Fernandez,
"Jericho") now faces charges that could put him away for as
long as 30 years.
But when the case is finally heard in
court, Bruce’s powerful desire for revenge is suddenly
replaced by an equally powerful desire to transform his tragic
loss into something positive. Despite initial objections of
his sons Brody (Landon Liboiron) and Josh (Ryan Kennedy),
Bruce knew that there was only a solitary act that could save
not only his sanity, but countless lives as well. He forgave
Justin. Forging an unlikely alliance with the young man who
killed his wife and daughter, Bruce and Justin begin speaking
together at high school assemblies, delivering a powerful
message of forgiveness and driving responsibly.
