Ramos slams political
dynasties, cites Arroyos Denounces Kampi raid
on Lakas ranks
PRESIDENT Fidel Ramos on Monday expressed
dismay on the re-emergence of political dynasties, saying
political leadership is not something that can be transferred
from one family member to another.
"It (leadership) is earned and you have to
work for it," he said in a media briefing at his Makati office.
Ramos cited members of the family of
President Arroyo who are either seeking reelection or eyeing new
positions.
THE military yesterday said it has a new
witness who can prove that Bayan Muna Rep. Satur Ocampo was in
Southern Leyte in 1985 to supervise the execution of scores
rebels and sympathizers who were suspected of being military
agents.
Lt. Col. Bartolome Baccaro, AFP public
information chief, declined to name the witness, citing security
reasons but he said the man was "very, very credible."
Six witnesses, all describing themselves as
former rebels, executed affidavits in September last year
against Ocampo in a multiple murder case which led to the
issuance of a warrant of arrest against him.
RETIRED Lt. Gen. Jacinto Ligot, former
comptroller of the Armed Forces, and his family have offered to
turn over assets worth P21 million to the government in exchange
for the dropping of the ill-gotten wealth case against them.
In a five-page letter to Special Prosecutor
Dennis M. Villa-Ignacio, Deputy Special Prosecutor Robert E.
Kallos and Deputy Ombudsman for Mindanao Humphrey T. Monteroso,
Rafael B. Zialcita of Zulueta, Puno and Associates, said Ligot
and his family are prepared to discuss details of an amicable
settlement.
Government lawyers sought the forfeiture of
P135.2 million worth of properties said to have been illegally
amassed by Ligot while holding various positions in the
military.
