We’re welcomed, says AFP

This pertains to the recent published articles that soldiers from the National Capital Region Command (NCRCOM) have allegedly been involved in partisan political activities and have harassed party-list candidates.

Based on the investigation conducted by the NCRCOM there were no indications that military personnel deployed in some depressed barangays in the NCR were engaged in electioneering and harassed party-list members. Any soldier who violates such rules will not be tolerated by the AFP leadership.campaign of the NCRCOM in addressing the problems of e society in human insecurity. The primary mission of these soldiers is to perform social work in the depressed areas of Metro Manila to bring services to the less fortunate and provide some basic necessities by bridging the gap between the populace and the concerned LGA’s and LGU’s.

Contrary to some reports, several barangay leaders have sent letters expressing their gratitude by deploying soldiers in their barangays. They also even requested the retention of troops or if possible to deploy additional soldiers in the barangays especially in areas that are frequented by criminal elements.

Some of them are Teresita C. Lumactud of Baseco, Bayani S Geronimo of Pandacan, Manila; Mario J Dauz Sr., Brgy 590, , Manila; Jessie Asistol of Brgy 868, Manila, and Joselito Crisologo Arceo, president of Spiritual and Moral Restoration/Non-Stop Against All Forms of Criminality of Brgy 649, Zone 68, Port Area, Manila.

These letters prove that AFP personnel deployed in NCR are being welcomed by the local residents. They understand that soldiers are there not to be involved in any political undertakings but to be reliable partners for development. – CPT. EUGENIO JULIO C. OSIAS IV, Group Commander, 7th Civil Relations Group, Civil Relations Service, AFP
