GMA Network brings to life the TV
serialization of the 1989 hit movie starring Sharon Cuneta, "Babangon
Ako’t Dudurugin Kita."
It is about people whose hunger for power
turns them to conniving and ruthless betrayers of their loved
ones. The cast is led by Yasmien Kurdi and JC De Vera along with
the country’s most versatile artists like Marvin Agustin,
Angelika dela Cruz, and seasoned actresses Dina Bonnevie and
Glydel Mercado in very special roles.
Under the direction of much-awarded director
Joel Lamangan, the new TV show revolves around Salve (Yasmien),
a young woman, who is deprived of education by her adoptive
family. She falls in love with Alfred (Marvin) and marries him.
Salve will play dutiful wife but Alfred, an ambitious man,
cheats her. Salve has yet to realize that the reason he married
her is not love but greed–over Salve’s inheritance. Alfred is
determined to get her inheritance by making sure that she is
clueless about her riches and his schemes.
Alfred chases a dream that would make him
rich, popular, and powerful—and this is through Via (Angelika
dela Cruz), the rich, influential and scheming daughter of a
politician who falls for his charms.
Alfred’s happiness with Via is Salve’s
misery. Salve wants to save the marriage but Via and Alfred are
plotting to end the marriage. He invariably leaves his wife and
joins his paramour instead, leaving Salve devastated.
It was in such an emotional state that Salve
crosses paths with Rod/Derek (JC De Vera), a young, good-looking
but hardened gangster who will later get attracted to her, and
Evita (Dina Bonnevie), the matriarch of the gangsters and Rod’s
surrogate mom. Both Evita and Rod will help Salve fight back and
get even with the people who made her life miserable.
The cast has Tonton Gutierrez (Glydel’s
husband) as Jango, the right-hand man of the syndicate, who
loves Evita; Patrick Garcia as Lawrence, a junior investigator
who wants to pin down Evita’s syndicate; Paolo Contis as Tyrone,
Jango’s brother; and Diana Zubiri as Julie, Evita’s younger
sister.
Giving them support are Ian de Leon as
Melvin, Julie’s childhood friend; Jay Aquitania as Juno, son of
Jango and Evita; LJ Reyes as Joey, Derek’s friend who is
secretly in love with him; Jenny Miller as Beverly, Alfred’s
mistress; and Robert Ortega as Fredo, a member of Evita’s
syndicate.
Special guests for the pilot week are Roi
Vinzon as Roberto, Emilio Garcia as Emilio, Mart Escudero as
Roman, Jennica Garcia as the young Julie, and Joseph Bitangcol
as the young Tyrone.
Originally created by renowned novelist Gilda Olvidado for
Darna Komiks, "Babangon Ako’t Dudurugin Kita" was directed by
National Artist Lino Brocka in 1989. The original movie earned
for Sharon Cuneta a Best Actress nomination in the 1990 Famas
awards. The soap airs weeknights in GMA Network’s top-rating
primetime Telebabad block beginning tonight.
