‘80s concert leads Viva Com line-up

Most people know Viva (recently re-named Viva Com) as a company that produces movies, albums and TV shows. It also manages some of the brightest and busiest talents in showbiz, like Anne Curtis, Sarah Geronimo, Rufa Mae Quinto, Rachelle Ann Go, Riza Santos and Mark Bautista.

On top of that, Viva–through its subsidiary, Viva Concerts and Events–has also produced some of the biggest concerts featuring the top local and foreign groups and artists. To date, it is the only local production company actively and consistently engaged in the business of mounting both local and foreign concerts.

The company produces shows almost on a monthly basis. In fact, they kicked off 2008 with the much-awaited Manila debut of alt-rock band My Chemical Romance at the Fort Bonifacio open field last January.

The sold-out affair was followed in February by "Ol 4 Luv" with Sarah Geronimo, Rachelle Ann Go, Erik Santos and Christian Bautista. Instead of staging their individual Valentine’s Day shows, the four Champions joined forces for a rare, four-in-one concert.

Then in March, it was the turn of pop-rock group Maroon 5, topbilled by charismatic frontman Adam Levine, to rock the Araneta Coliseum.

Recently, the "Golden Divas" Pilita Corrales, Carmen Soriano and Carmen Pateña got together for a special reunion concert that brought back the golden age of Pinoy music. One of the most successful concerts of 2008, the "Golden Divas" will soon be undertaking a foreign concert tour, but will first have a repeat before leaving for the US.

Viva Concerts and Events can also claim the distinction of having worked with some of the biggest artists in the country. It has produced shows for Regine Velasquez, Sarah Geronimo, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Lani Misalucha, Jaya, Freestyle and the "Greatest Hits" series featuring the musical idols of the ‘70s: Rico J. Puno, Hajji Alejandro, Nonoy Zuñiga, Marco Sison and Rey Valera.

It was also Viva Concerts and Events that brought in some of the biggest foreign acts in the past years: Paul Anka, Engelbert Humperdinck, The Stylistics, the Backstreet Boys, Westlife, Il Divo, Avril Lavigne and Simple Plan and the internationally-famous rap and hip-hop group The Black Eyed Peas.

All these shows and concerts were sold out and left audiences clamoring for more.

And there’s plenty more where that came from. Very soon, Viva Concerts and Events will give local and foreign music-lovers a double treat when it stages two concerts this May.

First up will be the "Greatest Hits of the ‘80s" featuring Randy Santiago, Raymond Lauchengco, Gino Padilla and Louie Heredia at the Music Museum on May 16 and 17.

Close on their heels follows the Manila concert of singer-songwriter James Blunt, who popularized the hit song "You’re Beautiful," on May 19 at the Araneta Coliseum.

Viva Concerts and Events head Vincent del Rosario promises even bigger and better concerts for the rest of 2008.

"We are committed to bringing you the best that the music scene has to offer, both locally and internationally because whether it’s movies, recording, TV shows or concerts, it has always been Viva’s goal to bring you the best," he says.
