Gabby's many demands
irk movie producer
T HE LAUNCHING
of "Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita" was presented like a party hosted by Dina
Bonnevie, who plays Evita, a powerful jueteng queen in the story. Her rival,
Glydel Mercado, then suddenly appeared as a gatecrasher and they acted a scene
where each of them tried to disparage one another in a sophisticated but
insulting manner. It's just too bad that the sound system in the venue, Oasis,
was bad and we couldn't hear their exchange of scathing lines that well. Next
time, just hold a presscon with a different kind of gimmick inside GMA-7's
Studio 3 where the sound system is so much better.
But the show's trailer is truly impressive, particularly the
pilot episode shot with hundreds of extras and with a helicopter. But the star
that was most interviewed that night was Patrick Garcia, who plays a supporting
role as a law enforcer who goes undercover to get into Dina's dangerous lair.
This is understandable as many writers want to find out his stand about the
Jennylyn Mercado brouhaha.
First of all, Patrick makes it clear that he never went to
the US as earlier reported. "It was a plan for me to go there to continue my
studies but I never got to pursue it since I still have projects with GMA-7," he
says. "I haven't left our country at all. Minabuti ko na lang munang
manahimik at lalo lang lumalala ang issue kapag sasalubungin ko ang init
ng ulo niya't sagutan kami nang sagutan sa media."
So what's the real score between him and Jen? "We haven't
talked. She changed her number and I can't call her. I want to visit her at her
home but I'm not sure how she'll treat me. I might not be welcome. I don't even
see her in our church. I'm really confused about what happened to us. She has
many complaints. I try to understand that it's part of her pregnancy. Naiiba
ang takbo ng emotions niya. Pero wala naman kaming formal breakup.
It's only in interviews with her on TV that I learned we've split up daw.
I was really caught by surprise by the things she said. Mas maganda sana kung
nag-usap na lang muna kami para hindi lumala ito. I tried to talk to her
pero siya na ang umiiwas. I'm not turning my back on her at handa pa rin
ako ibigay what she and our baby need. I never doubted na ako ang ama ng
baby namin and I still want to be with her sa situation niya
ngayon. About the insurance and the educational plan, I just want to make it
clear na my mom meant well when she offered it to Jen. Kasi
napag-usapan na rin naman namin ito and I never expected mamasamain ang
well intentioned gesture ng mama ko. It really saddens me na sa
buong buhay at career ko sa showbiz, ngayon lang nangyari ito
sa'kin. I'm not losing hope na magkakaayos pa rin kami at maaayos uli ang
lahat. Basta I'll always be here for her and our baby."

"Showbiz Central" scored an all time high of 17.6 percent
against rival "The Buzz" last Sunday that got only 9.3 percent. This may be
attributed to the first interview they did with boxing champ Manny Pacquiao
after his winning the WBC Super Featherweight title bout against Juan Manuel
Marquez. Manny said it's okay with him to grant the rematch that Marquez is
asking for. He says, "Wala siyang inuurungan." But Manny has a nasty cut
on top of one eye that required 16 stitches. He's coming back on Monday after
resting for a while in LA and will be given the usual hero's welcome.
The guests in the "Don't Lie to Me" portion were mother and
daughter Beth and Angelica Jones. The latter earlier revealed that she and Paolo
Bediones had a relationship. This was denied by Paolo. This time, it's her
mother who confirmed that Angelica and Paolo were once on. We won't be surprised
if Paolo would deny this again, with even more vehemence than before.
The three winners of the 2008 Bb. Pilipinas Pageant guested
live in the studio: Bb. Pilipinas World Janina San Miguel, Bb. Pilipinas
Universe and Bb. Pilipinas International Patricia Fernandez. Raymond asked
Janina in English and this time, she answered in Tagalog to show that she really
talks sense and was just nervous during the pageant night.

One revelation in "Showbiz Central" is the fact that
the Rufa Mae Quinto and Jessa Zaragoza feud is far from over. After Jessa
declared the reason Dingdong Avanzado dumped Rufa Mae then was he found her
lovey dovey with another man, Rufa Mae is now obviously pissed and said on the
air that Jessa is "bastos talaga" and "ang kapal ng mukha." Jessa is supposed to
return to Manila in May with husband Dingdong and we're sure she will react to
this and their word war will go on.
What appeased Rufa Mae in "Showbiz Central" was when she
talked about her new boyfriend, Latin American Robert Lopez who's based in Hong
Kong. She claims he's a dead ringer for former "007" star Pierce Brosnan. Unlike
other stars who are jobless, she's also very busy not only on TV but also on the
big screen. After "Pasukob," "Apat Dapat" and "Desperadas" last year, she now
plays the role of a baby maker for gay couple Polo Ravales and Sid Lucero in "Manay
Po 2: Overload." In real life, would she agree to being a baby maker of having a
child out of wedlock?
"Of course not," she says. "Hindi ako papayag to have
a baby nang hindi kasal. Gusto kong ilagay ang sarili ko at ang
magiging anak ko sa tama."

Polo Ravales spent Holy Week in Boracay. "I feel I
needed a much deserved vacation as I've been working very hard these past few
months," he says. "I'm taping 'Maging Akin Ka Lamang,' shooting two movies,
'Manay Po 2: Overload' and 'Love Is All That Matters' and doing a concert with
BOYZ.COM. Kaya da-pat namang mag-pahinga muna dahil magiging busy rin
ako when I come with the promo of 'Manay Po 2.'"
Was Jean Garcia in Boracay with him? "No. I was with
non-showbiz friends."
Is he bothered by the age gap between them? "Hindi naman.
I believe in the saying that when it comes to love, age doesn't matter. The
important thing is you have a connection, swak na swak ang mga ugali
ninyo at nagmamahalan, nagrerespetuhan kayo nang husto. I consider Ms. Jean
my soulmate pero wala kaming relasyon."
Despite their denials, someone says Polo took Jean to a
secret tryst in Macau one weekend and several Pinoys who are working in the
casinos there saw them can-oodling each other.

The movie that Gabby Con-cepcion is supposed to do
with GMA Films has not even started yet but it's already beset with problems.
Gabby is reportedly making so many demands that he will now be replaced by
Dennis Trillo.
We heard a GMA exec is so annoyed with Gabby, who was already
given a hefty down payment, as he continues to act like a big star when he
hasn't done a movie since 1994. "Wala siyang pruweba na gusto pa siya ng tao
at may puwang pa siya sa local showbiz, 'no?" someone remarks.
Since Mommy Rose Fla-miniano has been chosen by Gabby to be his manager, it's
said that Mommy Rose is now negotiating with ABS-CBN-Star Cinema for Gabby to do
his comeback movie with them, possibly with his daughter KC Concepcion. If
that's the case, why not include Sharon Cuneta in the cast as we doubt it if KC
herself would agree to do her debut movie with her dad when it's Mama Sharon who
nurtured her and took good care of her all these years. And also, what happens
now to the contract Gabby signed with GMA Films? We're sure the daddy of Jolina
Magdangal, Daddy Jun, is disappointed over this turn of events since he was one
of those instrumental in getting Gabby to do a project with GMA Films.
