A chef’s kitchen basics

This is the age of the celebrity chef whose restaurants are packed, with television shows topping the ratings, and cookbooks on bestseller lists. Occasionally they make a cameo appearance in movies or take up a cause or endorsement.

With more young people opting for a culinary career or opening their own restaurant or catering service, the celebrity chef is coming of age in the Philippines. One of these young chefs, Bambi Sy Gobio has inspired the Chef Bambi Kitchen Basics by Supor line launched recently by SM Homeworld at The Block at SM City North Edsa.

Included in Chef Bambi Kitchen Basics line is the pressure cooker which reduces cooking time and saves energy with each use. The wide, flat, heavy-bottomed fry pan is designed to provide an evenly heated surface for searing, pan, frying and sautéing. The Bambi flat bottom Dutch oven is perfect for savory stews. It also has a three-piece set consisting of a 24 cm Dutch oven with a tempered glass cover and a 24 cm one-piece fry pan.

Chef Bambi, who owns Kooky and Luscious, a specialty food and pastry shop graduated with a degree in Hhotel and restauranr management from UP Diliman in 1992. She received an AOS degree in culinary arts from the Culinary Institute of America in 1993, and soon started working in the kitchens of Bouley in New York, and the Truffles restaurant in the Four Seasons Hotel flagship in Toronto.

Back in Manila, she became the first food editor of Good Housekeeping Philippines, and later the food editor of ABS-CBN Publishing’s Metro magazine. She has since opened Kooky and Luscious, and is now working on her restaurant, Pia y Damaso, which is a mix of our Filipino, Chinese, and Spanish culinary heritage with a little twist of Jose Rizal’s Noli me Tangere.

Cooking is made easy by the Bambi Kitchen Basics which features the textured non-stick design which promotes healthier cooking as it separates the fats from oil and the food. These are made from hard anodized aluminum material, making each piece harder and more durable than regular stainless steel cookware. All these have an impact-bonded bottom suitable for all kinds of heating surfaces including electric induction cookers.

What Chef Bambi and Supor have is an impressive partnershio, Supor is China’s top cookware brand with numerous patented safety devices and designs while Chef Bambi has many achievements under her chef’s toque.

The Bambi Kitchen Basics by Supor line is available exclusively at the Homeworld Department of all SM stores.
