Alternative to plastic bags

Walter Mart recently launched its I-SHARE program and unveiled the I-SHARE kiosk. I-SHARE stands for "I Save the Habitat and Restore the Environment." Walter Mart partners with Procter & Gamble and the non-profit organization Charity First.

Under the program, impoverished communities produce reusable and biodegradable shopping bags that hopefully will completely take the place of plastic bags.

At the I-SHARE kiosk, an LCD video display showed the plight of the Philippine environment. By visiting the kiosk, shoppers can learn how Filipinos are affected by nature’s degradation and how the decline can be stopped through the reusable bag initiative.

In the first phase of the I-SHARE campaign, Walter Mart will raise awareness for its reusable bag through in-store merchandising, joint exhibits with retail partner P&G, and road shows focusing on environment and livelihood. To further build consumer habit, Walter Mart will offer bonus points and rewards to customers who shop with their reusable I-SHARE bag.

Under the "Tulong Mo, Kabuhayan Ko" livelihood program of Charity First, unemployed women in Payatas undergo values formation and skills training, and are able to earn a living by sewing I-SHARE bags.

Walter Mart is a member of the Benison Group of Companies, whose flagship company is Abenson.
