Pacquiao sets sights
on 4th world crown

STRESSING he is convinced he won his rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico last March 15 in Las Vegas fair and square, Manny Pacquiao yesterday said his next fight could be held in June against World Boxing Council lightweight champion David Diaz of the United States.

Gracing a popular mid-morning talk show on GMA 7, Pacquiao proudly showed the World Boxing Council super featherweight title he took from Marquez as a result of his split decision win at the Mandalay Bay and stressed he will go for a fourth world crown against Diaz.

"Diaz could be my next opponent," Pacquiao, 29, told a big studio crowd that included several politicians.

Pacquiao arrived early yesterday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport where he was mobbed by his family, well-wishers, supporters and hangers-on. He will be treated to a ticker tape parade today in Quezon City, Manila, Pasay, and Makati.

Moments after deplaning, Pacquiao stressed he beat Marquez even though one judge favored the Mexican star.

"Losing (the fight) never crossed my mind, I did my best and I deserve the victory," Pacquiao stressed, adding: "Masakit na kapwa Filipino pa ang nagdududa."

Pacquiao and Marquez fought to a draw in their first meeting back in 2004 when the Mexican hit the deck three times in the first round. He also downed Marquez with a short left in the third round of their rematch en route to the split decision win.

Marquez, 34, had repeatedly stated the title was taken away from him not by Pacquiao but by two of the three judges and insisted he deserved a third match against the Gen. Santos boxing star.

"Sa America, walang nagsasabi na natalo ako, si Marquez lang at ang kampo niya," Pacquiao said. "Kumbinsido ako sa panalo ko.

"Masakit na may mga nagtatawag pa ng imbestigayon about this fight, oh my goodness!" Pacquiao added.

"Dapat sa kanila turuan kung ano ang boxing, baka di pa nila alam kung ano ang rules ng boxing. ‘Di lang limang beses ko pinanood ang laban, kahit na slow motion pa, madami akong pinakawalan na suntok ang tumama kay Marquez," Pacquiao said. "Sa tingin ko panalong-panalo ako. Walang magpapasya na natalo ako."

"Inggit lang sila," was all his wife, Jinky, said.

Pacquiao told Marquez’s camp to shut up and join the long queue of fighters who want to test him atop the ring.

Diaz, a former member of the US Olympic team during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, rooted for Pacquiao against Marquez, aware that a win by Pacquiao would keep him in line for a big-money fight against the Pinoy boxing star.

From the airport, Pacquiao checked in and had breakfast at the New World Rennaisance Hotel in Makati. He attended mass at the Quiapo Church in Manila and paid a courtesy call on President Arroyo at Malacanang in the afternoon.
