TELEVISION personality Kris Aquino suffered a
miscarriage Tuesday, a day after she broke the news that her
mother former President Corazon Aquino is suffering from colon
cancer.
Kris was on her eighth week of pregnancy.
In a text message to friends, Kris, 37, said:
"Dr. Pastorfide already ruled that I had miscarriage. My
gestational sac has collapsed and my ovum is blighted. This I’m
sure is part of God’s will because he wants me to be able to
give my mom the best care and as much time as possible without
any health concerns of my own."
A blighted ovum or an embryonic gestation is
a condition when the embryo does not fully develop. This usually
happens in the first trimester or in very early gestation. A
blighted ovum is usually the result of chromosomal problems. A
woman’s body recognizes abnormal chromosomes in a fetus and
naturally does not try to continue the pregnancy because the
fetus will not develop into a normal, healthy baby. This can be
caused by abnormal cell division, or poor quality sperm or egg.
The unborn child would have been Kris’ third
and her second with husband and basketball star James Yap.
She gave to birth by caesarean section last
year to James Jr. after a difficult pregnancy where she suffered
heavy bleeding and had gestational diabetes.
James Jr. was a premature baby. Kris was said
to be bracing again for another high-risk medical situation with
her third pregnancy. Kris has a son, Joshua, with actor Philip
Salvador.
Malacañang said President Arroyo is praying
for Kris.
Cerge Remonde, director general of the Presidential
Management Staff, in a text message, said: "The President prays
for Kris, especially owing to the fact that she campaigned for
her in the 2004 elections." – Gerardine Fe Trillana and
