Easy breathing tips for asthmatics

No matter what season of the year it is, asthma attacks happen. Summer is asthma red alert season. Heat, high humidity, pollen, dust and increase in air pollution heighten the incidence of respiratory conditions in households. To minimize its occurence, Filtrete aircon filter from 3M shares the following breath-easy tips.

· Dust furniture often. It harbors dust mites, which cause respiratory stress. Use cloth that absorbs the dust to keep it away from air. Dust mites live in rugs, stuffed toys, upholstery, curtains and drapes, pillows and mattresses.

· Clean surroundings thoroughly and make sure there are no cockroaches around. Go for pest control treatment if you must, because cockroach allergen also triggers asthma attacks.

· Get rid of molds. Molds form when damp spots aren’t totally dried, so bathroom corners, ceilings with leaks, wet spots in your garage or kitchen can make molds grow. Micro particles of the mold fly around in the air and affect breathing.

· Books and magazines are dust magnets. Keep it out of the bedroom or store it inside cabinets with doors.

· Animal dander and cigarette smoke also trigger asthma. Avoid smokers and don’t let pets sleep in the bedroom.

· Manage asthma with proper medications. Asthmatics have inflamed airways that can be more inflamed after exposure to various triggers.

· Install an aircon filter like Filtrete that attracts and traps dust mites, molds, pollen and other allergens to lessen the number of harmful microorganisms in the air

Filtrete from 3M is the only aircon filter accepted by the American Lung Association. For more information about quality and healthy living, call 3M Philippines at 813 3781 or visit www. filtrate.com
