Designers show artistry
in Bravo Filipino

Filipino designers displayed their artistry again in the second in a series of shows recently staged at the fashion walk of the newly opened Greenbelt 5 in Makati. A tribute to the prime movers of fashion design in the country, the Bravo Filipino fashion show followed in the heels of a musical concert with classics from original Pilipino music.

Staged between the garden and the entrance to the new mall, the show’s long runway became the setting for the collections of Pitoy Moreno, Ben Farrales, Joe Salazar, Salvador Higgins, Nolie Hans, Patis Tesoro, and Roy Gonzales.

Flowers and wings were the theme of Moreno’s collection. His long gowns in pastel colors of blue, yellow, and cream were layered with sheer fabrics, while floral prints and birds’ wings provided accents for the bodice of the gowns.

Accompanied by the sound of tribal music, the models of Farrales donned a combination of floor-length skirts mixed with wrist-length tops in black fabrics contrasted by the colorful details of Muslim textiles.

Tesoro’s gowns were elegantly designed with floral embellishments. One of these garments was rendered in the traditional Maria Clara style, while the others were constructed using a modern halter design.

The works of Inno Sotto, Cesar Gaupo, and Auggie Cordero were also highlighted, as well as those of up-and-coming talents like Gian Romero, John Herrera, and Melissa Dizon.

Internationally renowned designers who have made Greenbelt 5 their home such as Bea Valdes, Patrice Diaz, Amina Aranaz, Lulu Tan Gan, Lila Almario, Vic Barba, Myth, Butch Carungay of Avatar, Religioso, Kate Torralba, and Arnel Papa also showed their support by presenting their collections.

Young designers Herrera and Regine Dulay updated current trends using brighter colors and accessories. Martin Bautista designed dresses with a futuristic inspiration. Aranaz’s collection of bags ranged from clutches embellished with sequins and precious stones to handbags and maletas made from local materials. Papa’s finely crafted accessories provided the garments with stunning details.
