Culinary classes at Maya Kitchen


Sign up for a cooking session where you and your little chef can have some fun in Maya Kitchen’s cooking classes. Make a play date with your child for the Parent and Child Cooking Tandem from 9a.m.-1p.m. on May 20 and 22.

Explore menus and techniques that can be easily repeated at home. This course covers cooking and simple garnishing and baking with decorating.

It includes the following recipes: Cereals Loop, Bacon-Wrapped Apple Burger, No-Bake Macaroni and Cheese, Hand Molded Animal Cookies, Happy Face Cupcakes, Chocolate Etching, Frosted Cookies and Pink Panther Coolers. Attendees get a free cookbook.

Young People’s Cook-In is for 12 to 19 year-old chefs from 9 a.m.-1p.m. on May 7-9. Learn theories and practice on table setting, napkin folding, hygiene, sanitation and safety, one-dish snack meals, baking wonders with mixes and cake design arts. Included recipes are:Tater Skins, Quiche ala King, Pot Pie, Chocolate Nachos, Easy Sylvannas, Party Fruit Tart, Tiramisu Pan Cakes, Chocolate Cake Overload, and activities like ways with color flow, edible candy clay and marzipan making.

The fundamentals of bakery production will be held from 2-6 p.m. from May 6-9. It offers hands-on introduction on basic commercial topics that include: standard baking techniques applicable to baking application on the use of ready mixes, yeast, bread, quick bread, pies, cookies and cakes plus a free baking cookbook that includes workshop exercise for commercial scale productions.

Learn the aspects of basic culinary from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on May 13-16. The course will provide essential factors in proper hygiene, sanitation and safety; nutrition and nutritional cooking; proper mis-en-place of mirepoix, stocks, soups, sauces, marinades, use of herbs and spices combinations, proper purchasing, storage, techniques of disjointing and boning poultry, filleting fish and meat fabrication with actual preparation of dishes from appetizer to dessert including garnishing for plate presentation.
