Food and flora exhibits
feature Pinoy culture

The month of May is Philippine Heritage Month and the InterContinental Manila joins the celebration with culinary and visual treats. A Bicol Harvest Food Festival will be held at Café Jeepney until May 31. It is a joint undertaking by the hotel with the provincial governments of Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur and the Metro Daet Development Foundation.

The event will showcase the gastronomic pleasures of the region known for its rich and spicy foods. Guest cooks from Bicolandia will serve local delicacies such as different kinds of laing, pili nut desserts and pineapples from Daet. These will be offered buffet style for lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday. Processed food and handicraft items from Bicol will likewise be on sale during the festival.

At the hotel lobby, BayanCuna: Unity in Philippine Artistry, a floral installations show will be held on May 13. This exhibit, which will be until June 4, will feature the latest works of Rachy Cuna. He sources his materials from Luzon to Mindanao. A sprig of twig is twisted and tweaked to give it another form, another life. Even driftwood, dried leaves and dried roots are given life when his hands touch them to become part of a new creation.

"When people are divided in thought and spirit, what brings them closer is culture. Our own culture teaches Filipinos to love one another. That is what BayanCuna is all about," Cuna said. "What better way to pay homage to our country than by celebrating the abundance of flora in our more than 7,000 islands. The Philippines is rich in natural materials which are always my source of inspiration every time I have exhibits," he added.
