Kate Moss and Topshop present their 9th
collection of signature pieces for spring summer 2009 reflecting
Kate’s bohemian take on dressing, creating effortlessly iconic
looks for every occasion.
Fresh pretty white cotton sundresses or ditsy
printed tea dresses are a summer staple. Embellished flowing
chiffon dresses are perfect for either beach cover-ups or
elegant evening wear, and black sequined mini dress exude
after-hours glamor.
Folk inspired pieces are reminiscent of 1970s
Woodstock bohemian dressing and captures Kate’s love of summer
festivals. Bright and flirty dresses are made from panels of
clashing floral prints with matching quilted jackets. A knitted
twin–set in orange, yellow and blue stripes worn with indigo
hotpants continues the playful vibe.
A dramatic black suede biker jacket adorned
with painted and embellished feathers around the neckline is a
punky take on the safari trend. Snakeskin printed drummer boy
hotpants are given a tough edge in a gun metal shade. A khaki
bandeau playsuit has a silver shimmer and jersey t-shirts are
emblazoned with leopard prints. Stealing the limelight from
leather, suede features heavily in this collection: three
jackets and a laser-cut mini dress in suede personifies the
rock’n’roll spirit of Kate’s wardrobe.
The diamante embellished one shoulder
‘sunburst’ dress epitomizes evening glamour and showcases what
Kate does best. LBDs are embellished with sequins, beads, or zip
details for a sexy modern look. Exquisite chiffon dresses are
decorated by elaborate lily and rose prints or delicately
embroidered. Embroidered Chinese silk boleros with fringing make
for the evening cover-up.
Skinny jeans are brightened up for the season
in spring-like pale blue, pink, and faded grey, and knitwear
includes Kate’s trademark stripes in classic crew necks and
cardigans, in royal blue, red, and cream.
As florals are fast becoming synonymous with
Kate, for this collection she has exclusively worked alongside
the world famous house of print fabrics, Liberty of London.
Together they have reworked three iconic prints from the Liberty
archive, creative modern designs, which are personal to Kate.
She muses, "I love wearing prints,
particularly in the summer and they’ve proved a real hit in my
past collections. The team was so knowledgeable and very open to
my ideas. The capsule range features original color combinations
exclusive to my spring collection."
Poppy is a striking design and the most
youthful and fun of the three. Enlarged red poppies are set
against a sky blue background and used on a cotton strapless
mini dress. Kate Nouveau is 1920’s art nouveau-inspired, brought
up to date by increasing the dimensions of the print and
swapping the background and used on a cute cotton strapless mini
dress. The Lilabell print holds the most personal meaning for
Kate, and is the most romantic of the collection. Named after
her daughter Lila, the pale lilac bluebells on a cream
background work perfectly on delicate chiffon and the Lilabell
frill trim maxi dress, reminiscent of 1970s Liberty dresses.
