Ateneo, FEU try
to close in on semis

THE chase for the last two semifinal berths in the Shakey’s V-League Season 5 heats up today as Ateneo takes on University of St. La Salle-Bacolod and Far Eastern U goes up against Lyceum at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Eagles, enjoying top form with the arrival of Thai import Em-orn Phanusit, try to zero in on the third semis slot as they shoot for their third straight win against the Bacolod spikers, who dropped a 16-25, 25-18, 25-18, 20-25, 13-15 decision to the Lady Tams in their debut last Tuesday.

But the visiting squad is expected to play a lot tougher in the battle with Ateneo in a bid to get back into the thick of things in the quarterfinal round of the league sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.

Kay Aplasca, who had 11 hits and 16 points and three blocks against FEU, and guest player Patty Orendain, who finished with 13 points, hope to carry the cudgels again for USLS along with Jade Aplasca, Je-an Ledesma, Sheryl Denila, Shane Celis and Sheryl Silva.

To stop the in-form Lady Eagles, however, the USLS tossers must neutralize the power-hitting Phanusit and the equally-talented bunch of local talents in Ma. Rosario Soriano, Ma. Carmina Acevedo, Patricia Taganas, Karla Bello and Misha Quimpo.

Adamson and San Sebastian clinched the first two semis seats after topping the double round elims.

Meanwhile, the FEU-Lyceum clash will be aired tomorrow starting at 2 p.m. on NBN-4 while the Ateneo-USLS contest will be shown Sunday.
