2 more advance to QC cue tilt

TWO more promising cue artists made it to the main draw even as dozens of other hopefuls signed up to compete in the qualifying tournaments for the San Miguel Beer-Quezon City 9-Ball Championship that kicks off on March 17 at the Trinoma Mall in Quezon City.

Romar Villones and William Chua topped a huge field of aspirants in a joint qualifying tournament over the weekend at the Celebrity Bar and Grill in Bacolod City to earn the right to represent the Visayas in the tourney, the first major billiards event in the country this year.

Villones, 28, of Talisay, Negros Occidental, and Chua, 26, of Cebu City, will join the seeded players led by former world champions Efren "Bata" Reyes, Alex Pagulayan and Ronnie Alcano, as well as Northern Luzon qualifier Aram Serquiano in the 32-man main draw of the $25,000-plus tournament sponsored by San Miguel Beer.

Bugsy Promotions, the event's lead organizer, disclosed that dozens of players have registered for three qualifying tournaments set on March 14 to 16 at Paeng's Bowling and Billiards Center in Robinson's Galleria in Ortigas, Quezon City, where all but one, the slot allotted to Mindanao, of the remaining berths to the main tournament will be filled.
