THE government has rejected a proposed P14.7
billion settlement over Manila Electric Co.'s failure to abide
by a 10-year contract ending in 2004 to buy power from the
National Power Corp.
The Office of the Solicitor General, in a
motion filed before the Energy Regulatory Commission on May 7,
said Meralco should pay P52 billion, representing principal,
interest and surcharges, for violating its supply contract with
the state-owned firm.
Solicitor General Agnes Devanadera said the
Meralco-Napocor joint settlement agreement reached in 2003 runs
contrary to law, morals and public policy, given the pass-on
provision that will impose an additional burden on consumers.

on tuition adding CHED expects any increase to be between 8 to
10 percent.
