Bulls, Aces out
to boost semis bid

RED Bull and Alaska try to regain lost ground and stay on track in what is fast shaping up as a wild race for the two outright semis slots when they take on different opponents today in the Talk N Text PBA Fiesta Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Barakos and Aces are locked in a three-way logjam for second place at 9-5 with the Air 21 Express who failed in their bid to force a two-way tie for first with Ginebra after absorbing a 115-116 decision to the Phone Pals last Wednesday.

The win enabled the Phone Pals to make it a five-team chase for the two outright semis berths with an 8-6 card. Ginebra leads with a 10-4 mark.

The Bulls will go into the game against Welcoat at 4:35 p.m. still smarting from a 93-98 defeat to San Miguel last Saturday in Cebu City while the Aces, who take on Purefoods in the other match at 7:20, are out to bounce back from a surprise 90-94 loss to Coca-Cola last Sunday.

Red Bull assistant coach Gee Abanilla, who will still call the shots for tonight’s game, will miss Junty Valenzuela who is serving a two-game suspension and Rico Villanueva who is with the national team in Tehran.

The Bulls clobbered the Dragons 100-71 in their first encounter last April 18 while the Aces beat the Giants 94-80 last March 31.

Purefoods, however, is coming off a moral boosting 117-105 romp over the Kings last Sunday and is determined to improve its 5-10 mark.
