Russian pianist performs at CCP

Russian pianist Katya Grineva will perform in a concert at 8 p.m. today at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo. The show, in cooperation with Friends of Overseas Filipinos Inc., is for the benefit of the soldiers, dependents and enlisted men at the historic Camp Odonell in Capas, Tarlac.

Katya began studying piano at the age of 6. She attended the Moscow Music School and the Moscow High School of Music. Under the Moschow Conservatory she studied with Professor Pavel Messner. It was during her tutelage with Messner that Katya began receiving recitals and experiencing interaction between the artist and the audience that would become the hallmark of her performances. In New York, she was awarded a scholarship to enter the Mannes School of Music graduate program, studying with Nina Svetlanova, followed by private coaching with Vladja Mashke.

Katya made her debut at the Carnegie Hall in 1998. She has been a soloist with the Acadiana Symphony, the ARS Nova Musicians Chamber Orchestra, Manhattan Virtuosi Orchestra, Europen Philharmonic Orchestra in France, and the Guayaquil Symphonic Orchestra.

Guest artist is Filipina soprano Joanna Go. Go is a graduate of the University of British Columbia Opera Performance program in Vancouver, Canada and has been invited as a guest soloist with the Clarion Chamber Ensemble, Singapore’s Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra and Choir, under the baton of conductor Lim Yau, and with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Friends of the Overseas Filipinos Inc. is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that has been educating bright underprivileged youth. For details, call 721 7710.
