A PULSE Asia survey on presidential
aspirants from October 14 to27 showed Sen. Loren Legarda a
runaway winner in a three-cornered fight with Vice President
Noli de Castro and former Senate President Manny Villar.
Legarda got 37 percent support from the
1,200 respondents nationwide against Villar and De Castro, who
each had 29 percent.
But the Pulse Asia survey analysis said the
chances of a president coming from the opposition camp would
be diminished if it insists on fielding as many as six
candidates.
In an eight-contender fight, Legarda still
emerged No. 1 with 21 percent. She was followed closely by De
Castro and Villar, each with 20 percent.
Rounding up the group were Sen. Francis
Escudero (17 percent), Sen. Panfilo Lacson (9 percent), Sen.
Mar Roxas (7 percent), Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay (3 percent)
and MMDA chair Bayani Fernando (1 percent).
Legarda topped the survey in the National
Capital Region (40 percent), Luzon (36 percent), Visayas (37
percent) and Mindanao (37 percent).
She was strongest in Class E with 45
percent, 34 percent from Class D and 30 percent from Class
ABC.
De Castro said he prefers to focus on his
job than think of the 2010 elections.
"Sa akin, ang survey ginagamit kong inspirasyon para lalong
magtrabaho lalo na ngayon problema natin hindi lang climate
change, mas malaki iyung din iyung global financial crisis
natin na sasalubungin sa pagpasok ng 2009," he said. –
