Lose weight with sardines and exercise

Did you know that eating oily fish like sardines, mackerel, and salmon combined with exercise like walking, has been scientifically proven to result in significant weight loss?

Two years ago, an Australian research team found that the Omega 3 fatty acids, found in oily fish like sardines, increases the elasticity of blood vessel walls which improves the flow of blood to muscles during exercise.

According to research leader Professor Peter Howe, ""When we divided up a number of people in our research program, we found that those taking fish oil combined with exercise lost significantly more fat mass than any other group in the study."

The research participants were divided into four groups. One group took fish oil and was asked to exercise. Another group just took fish oil without exercise. The third group got sunflower oil without exercise. The fourth combined sunflower oil and exercise.

The findings show that those who took fish oil and exercised moderately for 45 minutes lost weight. All the other groups did not. The most striking group is the one fed with sunflower oil – which contains no Omega 3 fatty acids – and was asked to exercise. Surprisingly, this group did not lose weight at all. The group that took fish oil and exercised lost an average of 4.5 lbs. over the three-month period of the study.

"If you take the Omega-3 each day and exercise moderately, our studies show your weight will drop," said Alison Hill, a doctorate student, who oversaw the study. "We were very surprised to see it was so effective, especially since these people were still eating whatever they wanted."

Weight watchers will surely enjoy Saba sardines, mackerel, and salmon. These products are high in Omega-3 fatty acids and make losing weight easy, economical and delicious. Try the sardines for breakfast and then exercise by walking the next few blocks to your office or school instead of taking a jeep, or substitute a few elevator rides with walking up the stairs.

You’ll benefit from the power-packed health benefits that Omega-3 provides. Medical experts are studying how Omega-3 cuts the risk of colon and breast cancer. Since it makes up for more than 40 percent of the total weight of the brain, it also plays a significant role in enhancing concentration, memory, learning abilities and preventing Alzheimer’s disease as well as improves skin tone and moisturizes the skin from inside out.
