Cast-off Paloma on
surviving Gabon

Paloma Soto-Castillo lost 14 pounds during her nine-day stint at "Survivor: Gabon." And then she had to deal with cocky, manipulative tribe-mate Ace.

The 24-year-old Downey, California resident is the third to be voted out of "Survivor: Gabon" which is surely turning out to be one of the toughest, most grueling "Survivor" seasons ever.

The seventeenth season of the phenomenal, Emmy award -winning show, "Survivor" series, "Survivor: Gabon" has the castaways marooned in Gabon, Africa – widely regarded as "Earth’s Last Eden." In Gabon, the castaways embark on an amazing adventure, trying to survive extreme conditions while attempting to forge alliances with strangers from diverse backgrounds.

In Paloma’s case, the backgrounds may just be too diverse when it came to tribe-mate Ace. "Ace is a character. We didn’t get along. We clashed, we have very different personalities. So I guess you can say he’s not my favorite person," Paloma revealed.

On "Survivor: Gabon’s" third episode, Ace Gordon, the 27-year-old skinhead with the British accent, maneuvered to have Paloma on the pole challenge. Two stronger players from the competing tribe easily dragged her away from the pole. Ace then pounced on Paloma’s perceived weakness and used it all the way to Paloma’s elimination.

"That challenge was definitely more painful than it looks," Paloma said. "I was trying to hold on to the pole but the girl that was trying to drag me out of it is way bigger than me. It was definitely unfair."

She confronted Ace and tried to point out that he’s running the tribe to his advantage but she got voted out anyway. Paloma’s parting shot was, "If Ace wins the $1 million I’ll probably never watch Survivor again."

And even now that she’s back home, Paloma, who has a college degree and is now working on getting her teaching credentials, is still mad at Ace. But she still loves "Survivor."

Asked if she would be willing to go back if given another chance at "Survivor," her answer was a resounding "Yes!" She laughed, "I mean when you’re out there, you go: What was I thinking? But as soon as I was back home I really felt like if anyone asks me to go back I’d say, ‘OK, sign me up.’"
