FUSE training
in Visayas
draws 274 participants
THE Foundation for Upgrading the Standard
of Education (FUSE) held the biggest training, in terms of
attendees, for principals and teachers outside Metro Manila on
Oct. 16 and 17 at the Don Bosco Technical Institute in
Victorias, Negros Occidental.
The training focused on English, elementary
science, mathematics, chemistry, and physics.
Forty-nine principals and 225 teachers
attended the training. The principals were given a separate
orientation seminar because as FUSE president Salvador H.
Escudero III said, they "are the key to classroom application of
what their FUSE-trained teachers learned."
Elementary science had the most trainees with
62, followed by mathematics, 50; English, 47; chemistry, 35, and
physics, 30.
The FUSE trainers were Dr. Marilu Madrunio
and Prof. Ruth Alido in English, Dr. Theresita Atienza and
Genersol Monton in elementary science, Dr. Josefina Pabelleon
and Rhodora Angela Ferrer in Physics, Emmanuel Garcia and Gideon
Legaspi in chemistry, and Dr. Milagros Ibe and Dr. Nympha
Joaquin in mathematics.
FUSE earlier held similar training sessions
in Ateneo de Zamboanga, Masbate, Eastern Samar State University,
and Palawan State University from April through May. Last year,
it trained a total of 923 teachers on English, mathematics and
science.
FUSE was founded in December 1994 by Dr. Lucio C. Tan,
Escudero who was then House education committee chairman, and
Sen. Edgardo J. Angara who was then Senate education committee
chairman after evaluating the state of Philippine education.
FUSE is one of the beneficiaries of the Tan Yan Kee Foundation.
