Today’s the day for Mar, Korina

Sen. Manuel "Mar" Roxas II and broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez will exchange marriage vows today at Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City.

The wedding, with a Filipiniana theme, is scheduled at 3 p.m.

Around 2,000 personalities from politics and show business as well as representatives from people’s organizations, non-government organizations and communities are expected to attend.

The couple reiterated there will be no grand reception at the Araneta Coliseum as they have decided to donate P2.2 million of the total P3 million in expenses to charity organizations providing assistance to victims of storm "Ondoy" and typhoon "Pepeng."

The couple donated to P500,000 to Caritas Philippines; P500,000 to ABS-CBN Foundation Sagip Kapamilya; P500,000 to GMA Kapuso Foundation; P250,000 to the Philippine National Red Cross-National Blood Service; P250,000 to the Philippine National Red Cross, for the account of Ondoy; P100,000 to Igan Foundation; and P100,000 to ABS-CBN Foundation Kapamilya Shower Na Project.

Sanchez said she and Mar can sacrifice what she called a "dream wedding."

"What’s important is that we’re finally getting married," she said.

Principal sponsors are Chief Justice Reynato Puno, former Senate President Jovito Salonga, Eugenio Lopez III, Sen. Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino, Jorge Araneta, Ms. Rosa Rosal, Helen Costales, Ruby Roxas, Cecilia Lazaro, and Maria Fores.

Paolo Zaldarriaga, Roxas’ 16-year-old son with former girlfriend and beauty queen Maricar Zaldarriaga, is the best man while Criselda "Dang" Cecilio-Palanca is the matron of honor.

James A. Yap Jr., son of TV-host actress Kris Aquino, is the ring bearer. Miguel L. Sanchez and Matthew C. Garcia are the coin and Bible bearers

Malacañang offered its best wishes to the couple.

Press undersecretary and deputy spokesman Anthony Golez said he is not aware if anyone from the administration has been invited. Roxas had served as trade secretary of President Arroyo. – Jocelyn Montemayor
