Prices continue soaring
But BSP sees 12.3% as sign of moderation

PRICES of consumer items rose by 12.5 percent in August from a year ago despite a slowdown in food prices, the National the National Statistics Office (NSO) yesterday said.

The August rate was slightly higher than the revised 12.3 percent price hike in July, the highest since December 1991 when inflation stood at 13.2 percent.

Inflation from August 2006 to August 2007 was 2.4 percent.

Reward for Kato, Bravo
doubled to P10M each

THE government yesterday doubled the reward for information leading to the capture of two commanders of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front held responsible for recent atrocities in Central Mindanao.

The P10 million reward each for Commanders Ameril Umbra Kato and Abdulrahman Macapaar alias Bravo is meant to "expedite the process of bringing these suspects to justice," said Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno.

Umbra Kato led the forcible occupation of 15 barangays in North Cotabato in July. Bravo led attacks in Iligan City and four towns in Lanao del Norte last month. The two are facing murder and other criminal charges.

for rush to arrest Macasaet

FIVE operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group who served an arrest warrant on Malaya publisher Amado "Jake" Macasaet for libel Thursday are now facing pre-charge investigation for failing to follow standard operating procedures in the service of arrest warrants.

As part of standard procedures, operatives or units that get hold of a copy of an arrest warrant should first accomplish a pre-operations clearance which will be approved and signed by the CIDG chief before they can serve the warrant.

This is required so that the CIDG chief and other officials are informed of the operation in a bid to prevent extortion by the warrant servers.
