Athletics chief Go Teng Kok said yesterday International
Olympic Committee representative Frank Elizalde will endorse incumbent
Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose Cojuangco Jr. for the coming
elections.
"I talked to Elizalde and he said he prefers the incumbent,"
Go, who claims to have the vote of eight members, told Malaya in a phone
interview.
Elizalde refused to answer the phone when contacted by
Malaya but he responded "No Comment" via text message.
Cojuangco, who became chief of the POC in 2004 when fencing
chief and then president Celso Dayrit decided not to seek re-election,
is eyeing a fresh mandate on the Nov. 26 balloting.
His toughest competition is said to be shooting president
and President Arroyo's half brother Art Macapagal.
Also vying for the POC top post are taekwondo chief Robert Aventajado and
weightlifting chief Monico Puentevella.
