Pastor held up

Mark Zubiri, 42, a cardiologist and a pastor of the Christian Growth Ministries and Tribal Outreach, and residing at San Fernando, Sibuyan Island, Romblon yesterday reported to police that he lost P100,000 worth of cash and valuables at the hands of motorcycle-riding robbers in Cainta Rizal the other day.

Sr. Supt. Ireneo Dordas, Rizal PNP director, said that Zubiri identified one of the suspects the rogue’s gallery as Romelito Balite.

Zubiri was waiting for a ride at the San Juan Bridge located along Bonifacio St., barangay San Juan when a blue motorcycle(plate number not available) stopped in front of him.

One of the men pulled out a .45 caliber and declared the heist.

The hold-uppers took the black leather bag of the victim which contains: an ATM card, $350 and P5,300 cash; several identification cards, a medical kit, a Timex watch worth $70 and N201 cellphone (about P40,000).

Fire hits school

A two-hour fire last Monday at an elementary school in Taytay, Rizal caused some P1.5 million in damage.

FO2 Roy Adrados, arson investigator, said that they are still conducting investigation to determine what caused the fire at the Sta. Ana Elementary School, barangay Sta. Ana which destroyed about 10 classrooms, school properties including books and school records.

Aside from the school, five other houses behind the school also were damaged.

No one was reported to have been hurt as, according to school officials, students had just been dismissed.

It was theorized that the fire started in the ceiling of one of the classrooms.

SUV kills tot, 6

Joy-joy Baroso, 6, of barangay Jesus Dela Peña, Marikina City was killed after being side-swiped by a Nissan X-Trail Wagon (XLY-102 driven by Raul Belonio, 57, of barangay Parang of the same city.

SPO2 Ignacio Lim Jr., case officer, said that Baroso died on the spot due to severe head and body injuries.
